I, Paula Bonhoeffer tells the story of the Bonhoeffer family, of Werner, who joins the the German
army, Dietrich, who tries to find a way of resistance he can align with his conscience, Klaus, who
arranges contacts with the Allies to forge bonds beyond war, Hans, who prepares assassination
attempts against Hitler, and Rüdiger, who tries to write laws for a just war.
The questions from back then are painfully relevant today.
What to do when the world prepares for war? What is pacifism? And is there a way to make peace
with your conscience when all the world talks about is war?
With the help of music by Scarlatti, Brahms, Schütz and Bach the play tries to approach some of the
answers and tells the story of a woman, who had to suffer what no mother should ever have to
suffer: To lose 5 children to war and fascism.
